All perception occurs in the brain
Emotional obstacles are a barrier to taking action to create the life experiences we want.
I've been working for a while to perfect a technique for removing these obstacles effectively. EFT works brilliantly in many cases with remarkable results. However, the frustration I often experience when EFT is I don't really know what is going on.
When we learn to practice a skill like EFT, we are learning the how. We are learning a technique that work, but that we cannot really explain why it works.
Understanding why as well as how something works is a key to mastery.

Identify. Identifying what you are feeling is the first perception shift
Increase. Deliberately increase the intensity of the feeling
Recognize. Recognize perception occurs in the brain as electrical activity, and electrical activity is simply energy within a vast empty space.
Release. Be the empty space, and the energy will release. Brain function, emotional, even muscles will spontaneously relax when you execute this perceptual shift.

What is going on in these steps
Identify. This is the first key perception shift in this process. In NLP terminology, we are reframing the experience of an emotion just by identifying this. In this step, we acknowledge and name exactly what we are feeling. You can verbalize this or just mentally note it. You might say "I'm feeling stress".
Increase. The second perception shift in this process. By deliberately increasing the intensity of the feeling, we are instructing our subconscious that an ownership shift has occurred. To deliberately increase the intensity of an emotion, especially a negative one, we are acknowledging that we are the creator. We are not at the mercy of our emotions, we are are creators of them. In itself, this is an incredibly powerful reframe, even without any of the other steps.
Recognize. The third powerful perception shift occurs when we recognize that all feelings are perceived and processed in the brain as electrical activity. Then we recognize that this electrical activity is made up of tiny energetic electrical forces within a vast empty quantum space. The Touching Infinity meditation is the training process for this step.This step requires significant practice to achieve mastery, as we are operating way beyond the externally provable or observable sphere of human experience.
Release. Once you have shifted your perception to the empty space that your brain activity occurs within, we can release. Let the electrical energy dissapate into the vast empty space. Brain function, emotions, even muscles will spontaneously relax when you execute this perceptual shift. A clear, present, relaxed awareness will become apparent. Some spontaneous twitches may occur in the body. I often experience muscles in my head relaxing, causing my neck vertibra to 'click' or 'pop' very slightly.
